Well, you'd think working on a neuro unit would bring enough entertainment...and then Tuesday night happened. My patient's family member came back to his room and said "did you know the hospital is in lock-down?" Now, why I had to hear this from a visitor and not from administration is beyond me, but that's besides the point. What happened was that an escaped convict from a work release program phoned the crisis hot line and said he was in the parking ramp with a gun and suicidal. After about an hour and a half, they sounded the all-clear for the ramp...and said we could leave at the end of our shift as soon as our replacement arrived. We were told we had to leave in groups and be shuttled to our cars. They still weren't letting anyone except employees come in to the main entrance. Anyway...turns out we didn't need to be shuttled to our cars and we walked in a large group to the parking lot. On the way, we decided to count the police cars that were at the hospital. Just from the main entrance to the parking lot (about 0.3 miles), we counted 47 police cars. That's not counting the ones that were at the other hospital entrances! Not to mention, they had rather large weapons too. They never found the suspect and are now thinking that he called it in as a hoax. And...now life is back to normal. That's the biggest news around here. I'm, of course, still pregnant...and getting impatient. The countdown is 13 days 'til I'm due...but I'll probably go late like with Caleb (he was 14 days late...just to remind ya!), so who knows!! It will be nice to be able to keep up with Caleb again...man, that kid can run!! I wish I had just a little bit of his energy. His feet start running before he gets out of bed in the morning and don't stop 'til we lay him back into bed. I'm actually not exaggerating that. He starts kicking the wall as soon as he wakes up...that's how he wakes us up. OH!....but today he let us sleep in until 6:30am...wasn't that very thoughtful!!
